“Looking for a taste of Canada? Try this red rooibos tea. It’s sweetened with (what else?) maple syrup and sprinkled with delicious maple leaf candies. Plus it’s 100% diplomatic (well, caffeine-free) and tastes great in both our official languages. With green rooibos, honeybush, caramel and toffee bits to shake things up. A truly authentic Canadian experience.”

Ingredients: Red and green rooibos, honeybush, caramel, toffee, candy leaves.

Caffeine level: 0 – None.

Suggested Steep:
oh-canada

My Steep: Hot with sugar.

review-illustratorMaple! Oh goodness, this tea smells so sweet! It’s funny how the caramel and toffee blend together to create that delicious maple scent. Brewed, the rooibos is a lot stronger, and the sweetness of the other elements have mellowed, but are still very present.

While the smell of the unbrewed tea is fun and exciting, I definitely like the smell from the brewed tea, it gives the aroma that you’re actually drinking a cup of tea, rather than a cup of confectionery sugars.

Surprisingly, the first taste that hits your tongue is not sweet, but then comes all the candy flavoring from the honeybush, caramel, and toffee. The sweetness lingers on your tongue, creating some kind of warm happiness in your mouth. I do really enjoy that despite how sweet this tea smells originally, it is actually fairly calm! I wouldn’t say this would often be a go-to tea for me, but once in a while it’s a fun tea to have.

For giggles by the way, my husband’s review is “it tastes like maple!”

[David’s Tea] Spearmint

Tea: Spearmint

“The deep green leaves of this fresh-tasting herb grow in pointy spearhead formations. Perhaps this is what makes spearmint such a tried-and-true weapon against all sorts of daily adversities. It might also explain why it’s such a sharp base for tea mojitos. Just add a tablespoon of lime, a shot of rum and a little sugar or agave to your cup. Serve hot or chilled.

Ingredients: Organic: Spearmint leaves from Oregon and Washington State.

Caffeine level: not listed.

Suggested Steep:
spearmint-1

My Steep: Brewed hot and strong with sugar, then put in a large glass filled with ice to chill.

review-illustratorSimple, sweet, delicious! Spearmint is such an enjoyable mint, and it’s super easy to drink. It’s definitely something I always have on my shelf, and was a wonderful iced tea on this hot summer day. This particular spearmint is perfect; it’s composed solely of spearmint leaves, which is all I want in a refreshing mint tea. I enjoy my mint teas sweet, so the added sugar made it extra tasty. It’s something I recommend keeping on the shelf for an easy brew!

Tea: The Skinny

“Looking for the next big beauty secret or weight loss trend? Let us give you a hint: try water. It’s true, water is just about the healthiest thing you can put in your body – after all, you’re made out of it. And what better way to jazz water up than with delicious traditional digestives like pu’erh, oolong and eleuthero root. Go ahead, drink up. The only thing you’ll gain is wisdom.

Ingredients: Organic: Oolong tea, pu’erh tea, ginger, orange peel, eleuthero root. With natural flavouring.

Caffeine level: 1 – Low.

Suggested Steep:
the-skinny

My Steep: Hot with rock sugar.

review-illustratorI’d say this tea is very natural and mellow smelling. The orange peel (which does smell differently than orange) is a good strong element, and stands out the most from the other earthy elements.
There’s a good not-too-strong earthy taste, that definitely has that orange flavor to top it off. The ingredients are simple, and great if you like that type of flavor. I think this tea is definitely geared toward someone looking for a health benefit tea, not so much for an exciting flavor like a lot of the other teas I find myself choosing. It was fun to try, but I think I’ll leave this one for Rob to drink.

“When it comes to making a romantic statement, this alluring white tea simply can’t be beat. For starters, it’s packed with big, juicy cherries, said by some to be an aphrodisiac. Hey, it can’t hurt. Plus it’s strewn with pretty pink rose blossoms – a sure-fire sign of love, friendship and affection. But the real key to their heart? Its delicately bright and fruity taste. Just one sip and they’ll be saying “I do!””

Ingredients: White tea, green tea, cherries, coconut chips, rosebuds, natural and artificial cherry flavouring.

Caffeine level: 1 – Low.

Suggested Steep:
cherry-blossom

My Steep: Hot with rock sugar.

review-illustratorWith its sweet and earthy smell, I feel like this tea is going to be very playful. The cherry scent is quite natural, and mixes well with the rosebuds and coconut. Brewing it makes that earthiness come out more, and the leaves unravel beautifully.
I’d like to say the taste is..simplistic. Easy and light. A good cherry taste without being overwhelming, and the coconut and rose backs up that good flavor. Overall a good tea if you’re looking for something simple and not too strong. Personally I think it needs a bit more of an oomph to be a tea that I’d drink or purchase again.

“When it comes to refreshment, this blend is playing with a stacked deck. It’s loaded with tangy hibiscus flowers, which bring their signature deep red colour and lip-puckering taste. Plus golden marigold blossoms, for a pretty pop of yellow. But that’s not all – we have an ace up our sleeve. We upped the ante with a super-energizing burst of Ecuadorian guayusa. Fresh, fruity, tart and invigorating…could this be the perfect iced tea? Looks like it’s in the cards…”

Ingredients: Organic: Hibiscus, guayusa, marigold petals, stevia extract. With natural blackberry flavouring.

Caffeine level: S – Stimulant.

Suggested Steep:
queen-of-tarts

My Steep: Hot with rock sugar.

review-illustratorI’ve actually been drinking this tea quite often! It’s tart and sweet at the same time, and I love it! It has a lot of hibiscus, which I usually am hesitant about because it’s very easy to oversteep, so I always do a short brew on this tea. The color is an amazing deep red, which is always nice to look at in my cup. I enjoy that even though there’s only a few ingredients to this tea, they’re perfect together. Rob actually picked out this tea, so I’m happy it’s one we can enjoy together…despite that I’ve been drinking it often…better save him some..

Anyway, brewed this tea tastes like how it smells unbrewed: tart, tangy, sweet, perfect. I really can’t get over how good this is! It’s great with some sugar, as the tangy and tart is perfect, but I always enjoy mine a bit sweeter. If you’re looking for a tea that sits in the middle of flowery, tart, and sweet, you’ve come to the right place. I definitely do recommend this one!

“Sweet, crunchy and totally addictive, chocolate almonds are a classic for a reason. Whether you want to satisfy a sweet tooth, need an afternoon pick-me-up or are looking for the perfect holiday treat to serve your guests, the answer is always an almond covered in a thick layer of chocolate. And this rich and nutty black tea is every bit as tasty. It’s got cocoa, carob and tons of yummy almond bits, plus an energizing shot of roasted yerba mate to add a warming toasted almond flavour. This little indulgence is so good, you won’t even realize you’ve gone back for seconds.”

Ingredients: Cocoa nibs, roasted carob, black tea, almonds, yerba mate, sugar, natural and artificial chocolate and cream-almond flavouring.

Caffeine level: Unknown.

Suggested Steep:
chocolate-covered-almond
My Steep: Hot with rock sugar.

review-illustratorI received this as a gift with purchase at David’s Tea’s Black Friday sale. I also got it as part of the Oh Christmas Treats gift set.
This tea is quite interesting. The different notes are hard to pick up…maybe a creamy chocolatey slightly nutty smell? It has a warm, inviting scent, and the brewed tea definitely tastes how the unbrewed tea smells. I like adding sugar to it, it brings out the sweetness I think it deserves. That said, this is definitely a dessert tea. It’s very sweet, and tastes just like a tea version of a chocolate covered almond. It’s great, but probably not one I could drink all the time, maybe more when I want a sweet treat.

Tea: Spiced Apple

“What does comfort mean to you? It might be a favourite sweater, an old family recipe or a perfect cup of tea. For us, it’s all about capturing warm and cozy flavours – like this sweet and spicy blend of apple, figs and chai spices. Laced with cinnamon and star anise, it brings back memories of apple picking, piping hot cider and fresh-from-the-oven pies. Basically, it’s like a hug in a cup. And whether you pair it with a good book or some great company, we guarantee it’s as comforting as it gets.”

Ingredients: Apple, figs, cinnamon, star anise, chicory, cardamom, cloves, black pepper, natural apple and spice flavouring.

Caffeine level: 0 – None.

Suggested Steep:
spiced-apple

My Steep: Hot with rock sugar.

review-illustratorThis tea is very straightforward: spice, and apple. There’s lots of different spices in it, and the apple remains a strong smelling component as well. While brewing, the tea smells strongly of cinnamon; smells yummy so far!
At the first sip, I thought “Whoah! The apple is stronger than I thought!” The spice is definitely there, but the apple is deliciously strong as well. The apple is nice and sweet, and then you’re hit with that kick of spice right after. This is quite a fun drink; easy to sip, and warms you right up.

Tea: Nutty and Spice

“If there’s one thing that never fails to remind us of the holidays, it’s a freshly baked spice cake. And this warm, buttery oolong is as festive as it gets. First, we start with a jolly jumble of walnuts and pistachios. Then, we add a bright burst of sweet cranberries and pineapple. And finally, we sprinkle in a merry dash of cinnamon to keep you nice and cozy. Whether you have it straight up or with a splash of milk, this is one tea that’ll have you singing “Deck the Halls” in no time. Warning: may induce feelings of holiday cheer.”

Ingredients: Oolong tea, roasted chicory root, pineapple, papaya, cinnamon, walnuts, ginger, apple, rose pepper, roasted almonds, cardamom, almonds, pistachios, cranberries, rose blossoms.

Caffeine level: 1 – Low.

Suggested Steep:
nutty-and-spice

My Steep: Hot with sugar.

review-illustratorThis is a really interesting tea! My first thought was “spiced walnut” when I smelled it, and that turned out right as I pulled out a half of a walnut from the container! There are so many different things in this tea, I love it. I have a feeling this will be another one where the “tea” element isn’t as strong as all the others, so it won’t feel like I’m drinking tea, but more of a nutty-fruity drink.
This tea fits its name perfectly. It’s nutty and spicy, and tastes almost exactly how I expected it. All the different types of nuts used blend well together, and the spice elements stick nicely to your tongue at the end.

[David’s Tea] Apple Cider

Tea: Apple Cider

“As soon as the snowflakes start to fall, all we can think about is curling up with a hot cup of old-fashioned apple cider – the fresh, unfiltered apple juice you can only seem to find when the cold weather sets in. And we captured the taste of our favourite seasonal drink in this apple-packed blend. With a sweet, clean apple taste and a hint of creaminess, it’s like a warm and comforting hug in a cup. The only thing missing is the cinnamon stick.”

Ingredients: Apple, apple pomace, sweet blackberry leaves, apple flavouring, artificial vanilla and cream flavouring.

Caffeine level: 0 – None.

Suggested Steep:
apple-cider

My Steep: Hot with sugar.

review-illustratorFor as much apple is in this tea, I’m surprised that that in its container, apple isn’t the first smell that hits your nose – at least, not the apple you normally think of. It’s sweet, light, and inviting, as if they really were the ingredients to make a bubbly apple cider.
Brewed, that familiar apple smell is much more apparent. The taste is amazing! I haven’t had apple cider in a long time, but I feel like for a tea this is very close to it. It’s light and sweet, and has a really yummy apple flavor.
I will admit I had to abandon this cup halfway through, and came back to it cold. It kept that light, sweet flavor, but I definitely think this is one that’s meant to be a hot drink. Overall I do like it. It doesn’t taste so much like a tea, but more of a refreshing apple drink.

Tea: The Spice is Right

“Is there any flavour combo more comforting than orange and cinnamon? There’s something about it that’s instantly comforting – like warm spice cake or a glass of hot punch. But nostalgia isn’t the only thing giving you that warm fuzzy feeling. Cinnamon is said to have warming properties, and one sip of this spice-laden green tea is all it takes to get that cozy fireside feeling going. Add some sweet orange peel and a zingy hint of chili pepper, and you’ve got a zesty blend that warms you up from the inside out.”

Ingredients: Organic: cinnamon, green tea, orange peel, cloves, chili pepper. With natural flavouring.

Caffeine level: 1 – Low.

Suggested Steep:
spice-is-right

My Steep: Hot with rock sugar.

review-illustratorCinnamon, spice, this tea smells nice! This definitely makes me think of curling up next to a fire with a blanket wrapped around you with a nice warm cup in your hands. So happens it’s a chilly night, so I thought this would be an excellent cup to have.
Brewed, this tea has that same lovely spicy smell and taste. I think I’m enjoying the sugar I put in this as it combats the kick this tea has. This has a great, warming flavor, and all the ingredients blend well together. Overall I like the flavor, but I don’t think it’s one I’d be quick to purchase again.
